“Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip?” John 14:9. I opened up my devotions being three days behind and Jesus used Oswald Chambers to hit me up side the head. We enjoy the song “What a friend we have in Jesus”….but…do we really act like a friend. You see most of you reading this would say you have surrendered to Jesus, but are you really close to Jesus, a friend of Jesus. Is your life a “one way street” heading towads you? Chambers says friendship means “identifying with someone in thought, heart, and spirit.” I am afraid that often I dont. I don’t when I judge. I don’t when I don’t praise Jesus more than I do. Actually I wonder if I am a friend when I choose to not act like Jesus did and asks us too. The Sermon on the Mount, Matthew chapters 5-7, really hits me. Most of us know the words, but do we live them?
So I get to my initial question – “Are we just like Philip?” Do we believe in Jesus, claim Him as our friend, yet really aren’t intimite and close to Him as shown by our lives lived and our thoughts? Are we just like Philip?…….or are we just like Jesus?
