SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT – “If Christians around the world were to suddenly renounce their personal agendas, their life goals and their aspirations, and begin responding in radical obedience to everything God showed them, the world would be turned upside down. How do we know? Because that’s what first century Christians did, and the world is still talking about it.”

2017 DIRECTORY BOOKS ARE HERE!! Don’t forget to pick one up on your way out this morning. One per family, please, until we make sure everyone has one. If there are extras in a few weeks, feel free to take one for the car, your office, or wherever you might like.
LENTEN DEVOTIONALS: A limited supply of Pastor Jeff’s 2017 Lenten Devotionals are on the foyer table for those who do not have email or prefer a hard copy. If you are on Pastor’s current email list you will receive these automatically. If you are not, but wish to be added, please let him know. Following is a brief intro to this year’s devotionals. Lent – among Christians originally the period of prebaptismal preparation, later of public penance. Finally it became a forty-day devotional preparation for Easter traditionally based on Jesus’ wilderness fast. (Mark 1:13) Lent is a time to prepare us for the celebration of Jesus rising from the dead. Why do this forty day devotion? On Easter we will celebrate what Jesus did for us and we did nothing! Nothing! It is but by the grace, the unmerited favor of God, that we can stand before God and be in His Presence for the rest of time when we leave this earth. I am sure of one thing. Heaven will be a time when we are always in the wonderful Presence of God. This devotion series invites you to be in the Presence of God – NOW! I am also convinced that by being in God’s Presence each day will be fuller. Is that what you desire? I firmly believe that you will find this is what God desires. Finally, have you ever given a gift to a loved one and never received a “Thank You”? Lenten devotions are a “Thank You” to God, it is worship, it is praise. The devotions are made up of daily excerpts from the book: “Experiencing God’s Presence” by Chris Tiegreen. I bought this devotional for my friends in Rwanda. After typing these devotions, I need to get it for myself! I suggest you take notes on the bottom of each page or start a journal of thoughts. These aren’t just whimsical devotions, there are practical applications. So dive in! Enjoy! I will join you! Pastor Jeff
LENTEN COIN BOXES are in the basket near the foyer table for you to take home and fill as you feel led during the Lenten Season. This year’s Lenten Offering will go to the Building Fund to be used for renovations and projects on the Frazier house. Please prayerfully consider your Lenten gift as it goes toward our future parsonage. Coin boxes will be collected on Easter Sunday, April 16th.
MISSIONS/NURTURE WE NEED YOUR INPUT: Recently, a letter was sent out to every member of the Nurture Committee and Missions Committee. I pray that you have read it and you find that you desire to participate in the goals in the letter. In light of the fact that we desire maximum participation, there was a questionnaire along with it asking you for the best time for you to meet in committee. PLEASE fill it out and return it to the basket at the church entrance or discuss it with your committee chair. I feel that this will better enable us to advance the Kingdom in the world. Pastor Jeff

ASH WEDNESDAY will be observed with a special service at Patoka UMC this Wednesday, March 1st at 7:00pm. Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, a time of reflection on our individual relationship with God and a re-dedication to purpose our lives in following Him completely. Ashes rubbed on the forehead of those who attend are a reminder of our mortality and an expression of our repentance. All are invited to share this very special evening. We hope you will invite someone to join us as well.
PANTRY SUNDAY: March 5th is Pantry Sunday… each Communion Sunday [1st Sunday of the month] we ask that you bring canned goods and non-perishable items [especially canned meats and/or box dinners] with you to place in the collection container near the front doors for the Patoka Food Pantry. We are fed by Jesus Christ on Communion Sunday, therefore we need to feed others. A great number of families have been served recently through the Patoka Food Pantry and the shelves need restocking. [items which always come in handy – and cannot be purchased with food stamps – soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, dish soap, deodorant, paper towels, toilet paper, toothpaste]
