Bulletin 4-23-17

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT – Be careful with words because they reflect your heart. It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell. (James 3:5-6)

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER – WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS!! As citizens and residents of the United States and as believers in Christ Jesus, we not only have a spiritual responsibility, according to 1 Tim. 2:1-2 to pray, but a civic duty as well to stand in the gap for our nation. Our theme this year is For Your Great Name’s Sake! Hear Us… Forgive Us…Heal Us! taken from Daniel 9:19, which says, “O Lord, Listen! O Lord, Forgive! O Lord, Hear and Act! For Your Sake, O My God…” As the 2017 National Day of Prayer approaches, thousands of individuals, churches, and communities will be rallying millions of Christian’s to once again heed this call! Scripture tells us again and again that our fervent prayer is effective. At this crucial time for our nation, we can do nothing more important than pray. Thank you in advance for making this a personal priority and for standing with us at Patoka UMC as we join others across the United States in praying for our nation, its leaders, our government leaders – local, state & national, our schools, churches, homes and families. There is a sign-up sheet on the foyer table for anyone who will commit to pray for 15 minutes [or longer] on Thursday, May 4th. As of last Sunday there were only 5 people signed up to pray, with 14 time slots left to fill. You can pray from home, work, in the car, at school, or come to the sanctuary between 8:00am-1:00pm. The place is not as important as the commitment. The only requirement is that if you sign up, you pray.
