NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER IS THIS THURSDAY – WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS!! As citizens and residents of the United States and as believers in Christ Jesus, we not only have a spiritual responsibility, according to 1 Tim. 2:1-2 to pray, but a civic duty as well to stand in the gap for our nation. Our theme this year is For Your Great Name’s Sake! Hear Us… Forgive Us…Heal Us! taken from Daniel 9:19, which says, “O Lord, Listen! O Lord, Forgive! O Lord, Hear and Act! For Your Sake, O My God…” Scripture tells us again and again that our fervent prayer is effective. At this crucial time for our nation, we can do nothing more important than pray. Thank you in advance for making this a personal priority and for standing with us at Patoka UMC as we join others across the United States in praying for our nation, its leaders, our government leaders – local, state & national, our schools, churches, homes and families. There is a sign-up sheet on the foyer table for anyone who will commit to pray for 15 minutes [or longer] this Thursday, May 4th. You can pray from home, work, in the car, at school, or come to the sanctuary between 8:00am-1:00pm. The place is not as important as the commitment. The only requirement is if you sign up, you pray.

PANTRY SUNDAY: May 7th is Pantry Sunday… each Communion Sunday [1st Sunday of the month] we ask that you bring canned goods and non-perishable items [especially canned meats and/or box dinners] with you to place in the collection container near the front doors for the Patoka Food Pantry. ITEMS GREATLY NEEDED AT THIS TIME: Boxed – macaroni & cheese, cornbread mix, spaghetti & sauce, instant oatmeal, pancake mix, cereal, egg noodles; Cans –beef stew, chicken & dumplings, sweet whole kernel corn, beef & chicken broth, ravioli, spaghetti and meatballs, sausage gravy, corn beef hash, beans & franks, chunky soups, Spam, luncheon meat – Treet, tuna, chicken; Drinks –Kool Aid (grape, cherry, fruit punch), lemonade, juices, Sunny D; Staples – ketchup, mayo or miracle whip, cooking oil, laundry detergent, dish washing soap, wipes.
