Bulletin – 5-15-16

When was the last time you asked someone to join you in church? It is our call to bring others to know Jesus more, to center on Christ once a week, it is the responsibility of ALL as disciples of Jesus –
“Therefore go and make disciples”.

The three great apostles of practical atheism, that make converts without persecuting and retain them without preaching, are wealth, health, and power. (C.C. Colton)

DEAR PATOKA UMC: What a blessing being the “loved one of the week” at Patoka UMC. Thank all of you for the cards and prayers. I felt God’s hands working on me thru you. Please keep me on your prayer list as I have Patoka on mine. What a great love you have for your church and each other. As of May 3, thru God’s love and grace I’m now cancer free, with a follow up in 2 months. When I come home later in the year I will be there to give you thanks and praise in person. Your friend in Christ, Patsy “Julian” Stetzer P.S. – your apple butter is awesome!

DEAR PUMC FRIENDS: I want to thank all of you who sent cards, prayers, and blessings my way. Naming me Loved One of the Week was very thoughtful and I appreciate your love, caring, and concern. I am still getting treatment 3 times a week but making progress. Thanks again to all of you. Rita Barton

FOOD PANTRY: Although “Pantry Sunday” is designated as the first Sunday of each month, we accept and appreciate food goods throughout the entire month for the Patoka Food Pantry. Current items that are GREATLY needed include jelly, peanut butter, brownie mix, pancake mix and syrup, canned fruit/fruit cups, Spam, cornbread mix, chili, pork & beans, tomato juice, poptarts, hamburger helper type box mixes, individually packaged toothbrushes, and deodorant. There is a designated basket near the front doors, or drop off donations to the church office at any time. We thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity in continuing to support the food pantry!

PRAYER SPONSORS… it’s REVEAL TIME!! If you have been praying for and supporting one of our youth throughout the school year, now is the time to let them know who their prayer sponsor was. Thank you again for your commitment to our youth.

ASSISTANCE FOR CANCER PATIENTS: We recently received information from Ellen [Bishop] Roach (sister of Jim Bishop) regarding monetary assistance for cancer patients in Gibson County, through Psi Beta Psi sorority, which Ellen belongs to. The sorority raises funds and then distributes a $100 check to any cancer patient living in Gibson County (as long as funds are available in the sorority’s bank account) to help with transportation or whatever the cancer patient might need. For consideration as a recipient the sorority must have the name, address, phone #, and type of cancer for the patient. If you know of someone who might benefit from this assistance contact Pastor Jeff, Melissa (in the church office), or send requests directly to Ellen Roach at 231 N. Jackson, Oakland City, IN 47660.

SAVE YOUR CAMPBELLS SOUP LABELS / BOX TOPS FOR ECUCATION: Red Bird Mission and Clinic (long time recipients of PUMC Missions funds) have been providing ministries in the Appalachian Mountains since 1921. Chronic poverty, lack of jobs, poor housing, and rugged mountainous terrain provide obstacles to a fuller life for the residents of this area. Red Bird Mission strives to meet these needs through Education, Health and Wellness, Community Outreach, Economic Opportunity, and Community Housing Improvement. How can you help this ministry? Save your Campbell’s Soup Labels, Box Tops for Education, Labels for Education, Tyson A+ Labels. Bring them to the church and give them to us to recycle. There is a wooden box on the lower shelf of the entryway table to deposit labels, or leave them on Melissa’s desk.

HELP UNITED METHODIST YOUTH HOME build a Boy’s Group Home by helping them achieve their goal of $400,000. They are currently at $216,400, over halfway there!
