We are fed by Jesus Christ on Communion Sunday, therefore we need to feed others. [Items which always come in handy – and cannot be purchased with food stamps – soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, dish soap, deodorant, paper towels, toilet paper, toothpaste]
HELP NEEDED TO SERVE MEAL: Patoka UMC will serve the meal for the Patoka Alumni Banquet on Saturday, July 8th at 6:00pm in the Family Life Center. Help will be needed prior to, during the meal, and for clean-up. If you can help, please contact Laura Heidenreich at 812-385-5079.
GIBSON COUNTY FAIR is July 9th-15th which means it’s time to enjoy the sights, sounds and flavors of the midway and to support our folks who participate in Home Ec and 4-H events, as well as other activities throughout the week. See you at the fair!!
FREE FARMERS MARKET – TENTATIVELY PLANNED FOR JULY 29TH !!! This is for any & all excess produce from our farmers and gardeners, to distribute to the community. We ask that you have produce to the church by 7:00am; however, we will receive produce on thru the day. If anyone needs help “picking” on Friday, contact Pastor Jeff Pinney or Kathy Hudson. We do not propose that you “can” less or “eat” less of your garden harvest, but often, gardeners have excess which is often a chore to get to those that need it. And our prayer is that the Lord provides a bumper crop! We ask that you also spread the word to your neighbors and friends who plant gardens, since we hope to get as much produce as possible. We will “ration” what we give to each family unit to only what they might eat in a week, or say 1 dozen ears of sweet corn, 6 tomatoes, etc. Our intention is to really get the word out on this, as far reaching as possible, so the more produce the more people we can touch! The farmers market is for PUMC church folks too!!
SUMMER 2 SCHOOL BACKPACK BASH: City of Princeton Parks Board is sponsoring their 1st annual Summer 2 School Backpack Bash on Saturday, July 29th from 5:00-7:00pm at Princeton Aquatic Center & Lafayette Park. It will feature a FREE pool party from 5:00-7:00pm, backpack & school supply pick-up from local donors from 7:00-8:00pm (or while supplies last), games & fun in the park from 8:00-8:45pm, and finish with a school themed movie-in-the-park. The event is completely FREE to all, including sponsors. Patoka UMC will be supplying post-it notes for 3rd graders and index cards for 5th graders that take advantage of the Summer 2 School Backpack Bash at Lafayette Park on July 29th. PUMC will buy a suggested number of each and then allow the congregation the opportunity to donate toward covering the cost of the purchase. We are not asking for individuals to buy these items. They will be purchased by the church. You can then deposit donations in the designated container (on foyer table soon) to defray the cost.
FUNDRAISER FOR PATOKA POLICE DEPT. AND PATOKA VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT.: Purchase a “Patoka” t-shirt, show your pride in our community, and at the same time support local police and fire departments! Shirts are available in sizes youth small to adult 3X. Cost is $17 per shirt and payment must accompany orders. Order deadline is July 31st. Information contact is Pat Chamberlain at TradeMart or at 812-215-9153 OR Stephanie Berry at Patoka Town Hall or 812-779-3401. All proceeds benefit the Patoka Police and Volunteer Fire Departments.
FREE YARD SALE – YES – FREE!! We are currently collecting items for the free back-to-school yard sale that Patoka UMC will host on Saturday, August 5th, 7:30-10:00am. Any & all donations are appreciated and can be stored in the attached garage at the Family Life Center. Please place donations on the wood pallets to prevent water damage. Clearly mark items “for yard sale” since the garage is used for other storage and we don’t want to overlook anything when sorting begins. Who can donate? EVERYONE! Who can take advantage of the items being offered? EVERYONE! There is no charge. Just come that morning and take what you like or need. In the meantime, if you would like to assist with preparation for the sale or need more information, contact Kathy Hudson at 812-779-2058.
