SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT – “The gospel reveals that Jesus forgives sins, including the sins of the flesh; that He is comfortable with sinners who remember how to show compassion; but that He cannot and will not have a relationship with pretenders in the Spirit.” (Brennan Manning)

TO EVERYONE AT YOUR KIND & CARING CHURCH: We thank you all for your thoughts, prayers & cards. It really meant a lot to be remembered by so many people. Barry is doing well. God bless! Our sincerest appreciation, Barry & Sandy Bane
NO BIBLE STUDY THIS WEEK due to activities & obligations at the Gibson County Fair. But join us again on the 19th at 7:00pm! There’s always room for anyone who has a desire to ‘grow in the knowledge & grace of the Lord’. The discussions are lively, the fellowship is sweet, and the Lord always blesses!!
WHEN BORROWING ITEMS from the church or Family Life Center, we ask that you let the pastor or Melissa know so that we don’t over extend our lending… we have folks that borrow tables for yard sales (old brown tables in the attached garage) or borrow tables & chairs for family events, even walkers and wheel chairs when needed, and we try to keep a record of who will need what, and when, so that everyone benefits from what we have available. We wouldn’t want to promise tables or equipment to someone and then find that they aren’t there because someone else borrowed them on the spur of the moment and forgot to let us know. Thanks for helping us keep things running smoothly!
INSTALLATION OF THE NEW SOUTHWEST DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT – Steve Beutler – has been set for next Sunday, July 17th at 4:00pm(CST) at Vincennes Community UMC, 1548 South Hart Street in Vincennes. All are invited.
FREE YARD SALE IS ONLY 4 WEEKS AWAY!!! Patoka UMC is hosting its annual free back-to-school yard sale on Saturday, August 6th from 7:30-11:00am. Any & all donations would be appreciated. Feel free to bring any and all GOOD / WORKING items and household goods, GENTLY USED clothing & accessories, toys, books, furniture etc. to the FLC garage now thru Friday July 31st. The earlier in the week (sale week) you have items to the FLC, the easier it will be on those setting up and managing the event. Please place all donations on the wood pallets in the attached garage to prevent water damage. Clearly mark on boxes/bags “for yard sale” since the garage is also used for other storage and we don’t want to overlook anything when sorting begins. Who can donate? – EVERYONE! Who can take advantage of the items being offered? – EVERYONE! There is no charge for anything. Just come that morning – August 6th – and take what you like or need. In the meantime, if you would like to assist with preparation for the sale or need more information, contact Kathy Hudson – 812-779-2058.
SCHOOL BEGINS Tuesday, August 9th. Please pray for our students, teachers, faculty & staff for a safe & productive school year!
RIDE TO THE CROSS – sponsored by the Rolling Disciples motorcycle ministry of First General Baptist Church in Princeton – is scheduled for Saturday, August 13th, and you are invited!! Some of you may have seen or read about the “Cross at the Crossroads” in Effingham, Illinois, soaring nearly 200 feet into the Midwestern sky, a landmark for over 19 million travelers who each year pass thru Effingham on Interstates 57 & 70. The Cross was completed in July 2001 and dedicated on September 16, 2001, just a few days after the terrorist attacks. New additions include the Ten Commandments display surrounding the base of The Cross and a Visitor Center, featuring a chapel, a reception area, restrooms, refreshment center and media room where visitors can view a video of the construction and dedication of The Cross. All are welcome – whether by bike or by car – to join the Rolling Disciples as they leave FGBC at 9:00am that day. After time spent at the cross they’ll be stopping at one of the area’s best restaurants – Niemerg’s Family Diner. The food is down home cooking and very reasonably priced. If you plan to dine with the group you are asked to notify the church by August 7th so that reservations can be finalized with the restaurant. For more information about the Cross at the Crossroads go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1I7y1Mc1CTghttps://effinghamcvb.wordpress.com/2013/05/03/the-cross-at-the-crossroads. For more info on the August 13th ride, contact Pastor Spencer Gaines at 812-385-5410.
OPPORTUNITY FOR HISTORY BUFFS! David Hudson, current PUMC Historian, has asked for assistance in updating the church’s history. David has a great deal of information to organize and coordinate and would appreciate help with the task. If you might have some free time and are interested in assisting as Church Historian, contact David at 812-779-5235.
DEADLINE FOR BULLETIN is Wednesday (12:00 noon). Deadline for the next monthly Newsletter is the 3rd Monday (12:00 noon) of the current month.
WEB SITE: Visit www.patokaumc.org regularly for information. And it is compatible with your phone! Sunday’s children’s program will be on the site, this and a lot more! If you would like to help maintain the web site, please let Pastor Jeff know.
PATOKA UMC ENDOWMENT FUND: In the financial section of our bulletin, you see the “PUMC Endowment Fund” with a balance of $76,259.00. These funds are given by members & friends of PUMC. This fund is a great way to benefit the church, not only now but forever. The principle of this fund generates, at present, 4% interest annually to be used as we see fit. It is backed by the Lilly Foundation, conservatively invested, and managed by the Gibson County Community Foundation. Each of the 92 counties in Indiana has this set up. It is a safe investment. If we had $100,000 in the fund, we would receive at least $4,000 annually for as long as the fund exists which should be a VERY, VERY long time. This fund would be an excellent choice for estate planning or giving now. If you have immediate questions, please contact me, Pastor Jeff.
BIBLE-IN-A-YEAR: Copies of the monthly “Bible-In-A-Year” readings have been placed near the entry. Feel free to pick one up!!
PEW PADS: Please remember to sign the pew pads each Sunday morning with the names of each member of your family in attendance… and make sure your neighbor has signed also. We are glad to send bulletins/newsletters but strive to be good stewards by not sending mail unnecessarily. If you do not sign we assume you are not in attendance. It is also vital that you sign for accurate record keeping. The pew pads can also be used to list prayer requests that are spoken or unspoken during Worship. It only takes a minute to sign your name and pass the book to your neighbor.
BRA BANK APPEAL: We continue collecting gently used bras (leave in designated container by front doors) for a special project designed to aid African women in the prevention of sexual assaults [less likely to be attacked if wearing undergarments] and human trafficking. For more info go to freethegirls.org, or thecnnfreedomproject.blogs.cnn.com and click on ‘Mozambique Or Bust’.
LOVE PACKAGES: We continue to collect Bibles, Sunday School lessons, Upper Rooms, Our Daily Bread, Hymnals… basically any Christian literature, to be distributed to third world countries where so many are hungry for the word of God that they take our excess, out of date items and cherish them. Instead of throwing out these things, place them in the designated container near the front entrance and we will get them to people who need them.
SURVIVORS OF SUICIDE SUPPORT GROUP – meets at New Life Church of the Nazarene fellowship hall (across from former middle school gym in Princeton) the 2nd & 4th Thursdays each month at 6:30pm. Everyone affected by the tragedy of suicide is welcome to attend this non-formal, non-denominational group that strives to support one another through the loss. For more info see the facebook page – Gibson County Suicide Awareness and Prevention or contact Michelle Hughen at 812-677-1509.
MEN’S BREAKFAST: All men, all ages are invited to breakfast & fellowship on the last Saturday of the month at 7:00am in the Family Life Center. Invite a friend!!
