Bulletin – 7-30-17

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT – Trying to do the Lord’s work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work. But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you. (unknown)

FREE YARD SALE THIS SATURDAY – AND YES – FREE!! We are still collecting items for the free back-to-school yard sale that Patoka UMC will host this Saturday, August 5th, 7:30-10:00am. Any & all donations are appreciated and should be brought to the attached garage at the Family Life Center right away. Please place donations on the wood pallets to prevent water damage. Clearly mark items “for yard sale” since the garage is used for other storage and we don’t want to overlook anything when sorting begins. Who can donate? EVERYONE! Who can take advantage of the items being offered? EVERYONE! There is no charge. Just come that morning and take what you like or need. If you would like to assist with preparation for the sale or need more information, contact Kathy Hudson at 812-779-2058.

HOLY COMMUNION will be observed at Patoka UMC next Sunday, August 6th.

PANTRY SUNDAY: August 6th is Pantry Sunday… each Communion Sunday [1st Sunday of the month] we ask that you bring canned goods and non-perishable items [especially canned meats and/or box dinners] with you to place in the collection container near the front doors for the Patoka Food Pantry. We are fed by Jesus Christ on Communion Sunday, therefore we need to feed others. [Items which always come in handy – and cannot be purchased with food stamps – soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, dish soap, deodorant, paper towels, toilet paper, toothpaste]

BIBLE STUDY: There’s always room for anyone who has a desire to ‘grow in the knowledge & grace of the Lord’… so join us Tuesdays at 7:00pm (unless otherwise noted in the bulletin) in the Family Life Center Wesley Room. The discussions are lively, the fellowship is sweet, and the Lord always blesses!!

SCHOOL BEGINS Wednesday, August 9th. Please pray for our students, teachers, faculty and staff for a safe and productive year.

Prayer Sponsors – if you have been (or have never been) and would like to be a prayer sponsor for one of our youth thru the school year, please notify Darla Meyer Smith or Lisa Meyer. All it requires is doing just what it sounds like… pray regularly for the youth whose name you will be given, and if you choose to, remember them with cards and notes and small gifts on special occasions or “just because” to encourage and uplift them. We will not assume that because you were a prayer sponsor this past school year that you automatically wish to be one this school year. So, please let Darla or Lisa know right away.

College Addresses – we would also like to stay in touch with our college students, so we’re asking for new and updated addresses for those students as soon as they are available. If you’d like to include phone #’s, emails, birthdays, etc. that would be fantastic! When all addresses are turned in we will post a permanent list on the bulletin board. Please turn in college addresses to Melissa in the church office.

APPLE BUTTER WEEK is expected to be September 11th & 12th. We have great coordinators in place but EVERYONE’S help is needed, from washing jars to peeling & cooking and stirring & filling jars! There’s a job for anyone willing to help. We’ll start at 6:30am each day, but we can use people all throughout the day & evening. We will need a firm commitment from those volunteering, so plan ahead and add your name to the sign-up sheet when it becomes available. Also…..
 Stock up on jars, lids & rings
 Stock up on sugar (we’ll need at least 55 bags of the 4-lb bags / we CANNOT use “fine granulated”)
 Stock up on Splenda (we’ll need at least 25 LARGE bags)
 We’ll need 2 cans of PAM cooking spray
 Monetary donations are ALWAYS a great help for extra, unexpected, last-minute purchases
 Donate fabric for jar toppers
 Take home fabric & cut out toppers (check with Melissa for fabric & topper pattern)
 Plan to work at our church booth at Heritage Days September 15th & 16th
 Pray for production days and for our volunteers

If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed. If you look at God you’ll be at rest. (unknown)
