Devotion #35 – Monday, March 21

Listen – (The Lord said,) “Oh, that my people would listen to me! Oh, that Israel would follow me, walking in my paths!” Psalm 81:13

God says to you: “Many people cry out to hear My voice, but aren’t really listeners. I speak, they dismiss My words as their own imagination, coincidence, or subjective experience. Some even dismiss the Bible as not being My voice to them because it didn’t apply specifically to them when I first spoke those words, or they don’t think that context is relevant to their lives. They place higher standards on themselves than they do on My prophets, who were bold enough to act on what they thought they heard. Skeptical hearers can talk themselves out of virtually anything I say, even though they begged Me to speak in the first place. They want to hear but they don’t want to listen.

Most people don’t realize that while they are crying out to hear My voice, I am calling out for them to listen. I have no shortage of passive hearers in My Kingdom, but I am looking for active listeners. I want you, Like stewards who refuse to bury their talents, to take some risks. If you think you probably heard Me, don’t play it safe. Assume you did. If you pursue My voice and aren’t certain you heard, the way of faith is to believe I answered your request rather than believe I didn’t. I want you to trust My ability to communicate more than you trust your ability to be deceived. Listen and step out on what you heard. Don’t be afraid. I don’t punish those who dare to have faith. If you fall, I will pick you up and put you back on the right path. If you make a mistake, I won’t condemn you. My grace is more generous for those who follow Me boldly and passionately, even at the risk of being wrong. Don’t just hear with your ears. Listen with your heart.” God
